Welcome to the Laddobar Web. As you might have noticed, it is unfortunately in Czech only so far - I just don't have enough time to translate it all. So I tried to make a short summary of my interests, this web site, and other possibly interesting information. Let me start from the basics - my name is Ladislav Pelcl and I am 20 years old. I am from the Czech Republic (part of former Czechoslovakia); I live in its capital, Prague, a city with about 1 million citizens. I used to be an AFS exchange student in the USA, Massachusetts, for one year in 2000 - 2001. I graduated from high school there and at home as well, now I am planning to study IT in Prague. One of my major interests is computers and the Internet. I like creating web sites, mostly those dynamically-generated using PHP (HTML preprocessor), JavaScript, and databases. There is always something new to learn , ) Now I am trying to learn to use Linux and to program in Perl. On my home-computer I have installed Windows 98 SE, Windows 2000 Prof., and Linux but I still mostly use Windows. In the US I also had to use MacOS; and I had the opportunity to pretty much administer the whole Linux-based web and network server. One of the few pages in English is Prompt - a list of funny computer messages. Besides programs I need for web-design like Adobe Photoshop I also work with few Microsoft programs, MS Word, MS IE and MS Outlook Express. Before I left to the US I liked to play several computer games - so that is what my Commandos-page is about. Diablo, Command & Conquer, and Warcraft series are my other favorite games. But I haven't played any of them in the last seven months. But I don't sit at the computer all the time. I like hiking and backpacking, and in winter also snowboarding and cross-country skiing. I spent about half of my weekends away from home, outdoors. On the Outdoor-page there are several reviews of outdoor-products I use. In the summer of 1999 I and my friends went backpacking to Scotland for one month. It was a wonderful trip; you can see some photos (taken by my Olympus camera) on the Scotland-page. Another interesting activity that I and my friends have been practicing for some years now is wooden-sword-fencing. Usually two groups of people fight with wooden swords in woods (or generally outdoors). These exciting battles are mostly inspired by some fantasy books, like J. R. R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings (Tolkien is by the way one of my favorite authors - a topic for another page). If you would have a chance to try this, I fully recommend it. It is an awesome experience. I like reading. On my web site there is a Tolkien-page and a Sapkowski-page (he is probably my favorite author), but I also like many more books and authors, like William Gibson's Neuromancer and Erich Maria Remarque. Now I like more realistic (and often sad) books than those with happy-endings. I like many kinds of music - Morcheeba, Ohm Square, U2, Prodigy, R. E. M., even some classical music. I like musicals too - especially Jesus Christ Superstar (here is my page about its Czech production) and Hair. One of my favorite singers, Czech folk singer Jaromír Nohavica, is a topic for another page. And that is pretty much it.
